All Saints' Academy, Cheltenham - Principal Designate Appointed

Peter Kingham has been appointed as Principal Designate for All Saints’ Academy, Cheltenham.  He takes up his post in September 2010 to prepare and plan for the academy’s opening in September 2011.

Peter was one of the initial 30 National Leaders of Education appointed by the previous government to advise ministers and to work with schools across the country on school improvement.  At the time of his appointment to this elite group he was the headteacher of Etone College, which under his leadership was transformed from a failing school into the only secondary school in Nuneaton to be given an “outstanding” designation by OfSTED.

Peter moved in 2009 to work as regional director for Oasis Community Learning, a Christian based organisation which sponsors academies, because he wanted to use the innovations and changes he had made at Etone College to make a difference to the education of students across the country.

Peter was appointed as Principal Designate in May 2010 and is excited about the new opportunities that the academy will bring to Cheltenham with its fantastic new building and the introduction of new subjects and new ways of working.  He is looking forward to meeting prospective students and parents at the academy open evening in September 2010.

Peter is a Christian and is pleased to be leading a school with a Christian ethos and values.  He believes that education involves not only examination success, but also the development of every individual’s potential in a caring and supportive community.  He wants to build on the current positive relationships between staff and students at Christ Church College.

Peter said:  “My vision for the academy is that every child that attends will succeed, achieve and obtain the very best results they possibly can ... I want every child to enjoy their education ... leaving us young adults ready for the big wide world”.

The academy will also provide facilities for the whole community to use and Peter wants it to become a centre for the community so that families are able to learn together, enjoy activities together and build new relationships and friendships.
