Discovering the Past and Building the Future

Cotswold Archaeology have been carrying out excavations at the site for the All Saints Academy in Cheltenham before work starts on the new buildings which will open in September 2011.

They have uncovered a very significant find – an Anglo-Saxon settlement dating from the sixth to eighth centuries AD, earlier than any previously known site in the area.

They have identified a large timber hall which measures 11m by 6m and found pottery and two skeletons. The finds have been removed for accurate dating and recording and will eventually be displayed at Cheltenham Museum.

More information about the excavation can be found on the BBC website.
